A major misconception that a lot of people have when planning a wedding or other special event is that they are going to spend an absurd amount of money. While in some cases this unavoidably happens, there are lots of tips and shortcuts that you can use to save money and still end up with the event of your dreams.

If you are just starting to plan your wedding, the first money saving idea you want to think about is when the your special day will be. You can save yourself a huge amount of money if you get married in the months of January, February, March, or November, which are all considered “off-season.” Also, having your wedding on any day during the week except for Saturday is also a price lowering option.

Want that perfect wedding dress, but don’t want to dive into your savings account to get it?  One way to do so is renting your dress instead of buying it. A lot of places offer this option to allow brides to spend money on other items. If you have time to plan in advance, consider purchasing your wedding shoes in the summer, when white shoes are most popular. Just remember that no one is going to know how much you spent. What is important is that you are happy with how you look!

Another mistake that a lot of brides tend to make is spending too much money on invitations, decorations, or party favors. To make your invitations more personal and less expensive, make them yourself. There are a number of paper stores and websites available where you can find original and creative ideas. Ask your florist if it is possible to rent flowers or plants for decorations. Also, don’t hesitate to stop by your local dollar store and check out their party favors selection. Sometimes you can find something that you saw somewhere else for much less!

Along with all of these tips, just remember to think about what you really want for your wedding and see if you can find a less expensive route. If you have a friend who enjoys photography as a hobby, hire them at a cheaper price to take your photos. Ask a friend with a fancy or unique car to borrow theirs for the day of transportation. You might know someone who has a band or that used to DJ. Give them a call!

Getting married doesn’t have to drain your bank account. Your wedding is the most important day of your life and you should be able to look back at it with nothing but joy!
